The painting guides us into the magical romance of two worlds. With narrow side streets descending to the sea, houses with red tiled roofs, and a girl in a white dress on a balcony, the artist depicts a real Italian town during the Age of the Renaissance, possibly Verona – the native town of Shakespearean Juliette.
But now we turn our eyes to a guitar standing in the foreground and another world comes to view. A fanciful and romantic world tinged with light irony. As in the strange tales of Hoffmann with his Nutcracker, a thing transforms into a living creature without losing its qualities. The musical instrument girds itself with a red belt, having something in common with the red tiles of the roofs. Its neck takes the arabesque shape of a young man with a futuristic haircut and the guitar begins to play, touching the strings of its body.
