The Fish and the City are, to a certain extent, two opposed symbols. If the Fish is a phenomenon of Nature, a spontaneous element, the City is a phenomenon of Civilization, a symbol of organization and orderliness.
Such a classification can be correlated with the nature of man, combining in himself two elements — rational and logical on one hand, and emotional and sensual on the other. The sudden coming of the gigantic Fish into the narrow river of the City is an unpredictable outburst of emotions of a man who is, as a rule, reasonable and gentle. This is his freedom of will!
The figure of a fisherman symbolizes his hope for the benevolence of the Mistress of Good Luck who is willful and whimsical.
